Description
Plantain Green, referring to unripe plantains, is locally known as “Kacha Kola” in Bangladesh. It has a firm, bright green skin and a starchy, firm, and savory flesh. Scientifically part of the genus Musa, green plantains are primarily used as a vegetable due to their low sugar content and high starchiness. Like yellow plantains, green plantains are staple crops in many tropical and subtropical countries, including Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and parts of Southeast Asia. They are extensively cultivated throughout Bangladesh. In Bangladeshi cuisine, green plantains are extensively used in curries, stir-fries, and vegetable mixes, often sliced and added to fish or meat dishes, or prepared as a dry vegetable side dish (bhaji), valued for their ability to absorb flavors and add body to meals.
