Description
Longan, locally known as “Kath-lichu” (কাঠলিচু) or “Ashphol” (আঁশফল) in Bangladesh, is a small, round, translucent fruit encased in a thin, brittle, yellowish-brown shell. Often referred to as “dragon’s eye” due to its appearance when peeled (a black seed visible through the translucent flesh), it offers a sweet, juicy, and subtly musky flavor similar to lychee but milder. Scientifically known as Dimocarpus longan, this tropical fruit is typically enjoyed fresh as a snack, added to fruit salads, or used in sweet soups and desserts, prized for its refreshing taste and unique texture. It is found in hilly areas of Chittagong.
